Consider the following questions:

  • Review the list of common challenges in the first year of college. Which of these have you experienced? What has helped you manage these challenges?
  • What hidden rules and expectations have you noticed so far? Have some of your professors made these expectations less “hidden” than others?
  • Use the internet to find your university’s list of student organizations. Which organizations look relevant to your interests?
  • What internship, volunteering, or job shadowing experiences have you had so far? What did you learn from these experiences?
  • What kinds of internship, volunteering, or job shadowing experiences would you like to participate in? Do you know where to find these opportunities?
